Camcorder file transfer?

I have a Canon vixia and would like to just copy the files from the flash card to my PC. I don't have the software installed yet and am unable to before my vacation. Can I just copy the files from the flash card for storage on my pc and then import them to the software later? I plan to shoot video on vacation, then nightly empty the flash card onto the pc to free up room for the next day.
