Do monastic practice vary significantly between Buddhism and Christianity?

Of course the name you pray to is different, so are the books, and the outwards traditions but I wondered if at the core of ascetic religious practice there is a significant overlap in methods and techniques. I remember attending a retreat once and the abbey where it was held was telling us about the Druids who had visited as well as the Zen Buddhists; and that they were interesting in picking up "tips" from these other faiths to help their own practice.
